Actual Mating Envelope (AME) is an envelope that is inverse of a feature of size that just coincides with the extremities or high points of a feature.

For Holes, an AME is the largest cylinder that may expand so that it coincides with the hole’s surfaces at the high points

For Shafts, an AME is the smallest hole that may contract so that it coincides with the shaft’s surfaces at the high points

Actual Mating Envelope (AME) are of Two Types
1. Unrelated Actual Mating Envelope (UAME)
2. Related Actual Mating Envelope (RAME)
