This video explains why the dating market is doomed to lead us to an increasingly serious mating crisis.

The mating crisis we’re facing has its roots in the sexual revolution of the 1960s. Women’s time was liberated by technologies like the electric washing machine and vacuum cleaner, and so, when the birth control pill came along, women were free to pursue educational and economic success for the first time in history.

It wasn’t long before women started to overtake men on the educational front, and now, in 2022, women in their 20s are beginning to leave men behind on the financial front, too.

While this is obviously good for women in certain respects, it’s having a devastating effect on the modern dating market.

Why? Because women are hypergamous, which means they’re biologically wired to select sexual partners who are as competent, or more competent, than they are. Hypergamy is a good thing, for if our female ancestors had been inclined to have sex with and reproduce with men who were unable to defend or acquire resources for them, our species probably would’ve died out a long time ago.

But now that women are on the road to becoming the high-achievers in the social order, hypergamy is preventing many men and women from finding suitable mates, because a large pool of women find attraction in only a very small pool of highly promising or successful men.

This reality is playing out on modern dating apps like Tinder, where a few guys get all the girls. This incentives the few high-status men to sleep with as many women as they can. This new dating market, in which many women date a small number of men, and many men date nobody at all, is what we call hookup culture. Needless to say, hookup culture makes very few people particularly happy.

The mating crisis isn’t helped by the fact that young men are rapidly dropping out of college. And they can’t be blamed, because many colleges are trash. But women with college degrees generally want to hookup with men who also have college degrees, as it’s a signifier of conscientiousness and a promising future.
